Gait Belts for Safe Transfers

Gait Belts for Safe Transfers: A gait belt goes around the patient’s waist and is used to by a caregiver to assist their loved-one with moving from one surface to another or what therapists call a patient transfer. Some common patient transfers are moving from a bed to a chair, moving from one chair to another, or moving from a wheelchair to a toilet. Using a gait belt to assist with transfers will not only help keep your loved-one safe but also yourself. It’s always important to take care of yourself so you can continue to care for others.
