Pre Operative Bathing Routine
Before surgery, you can play an important role in your own health. [...]
Before surgery, you can play an important role in your own health. Because skin is not sterile, we need to be sure that your skin is as free of germs ...as possible before surgery. You can reduce the number of germs on your skin by carefully washing before surgery. Following these instructions will help ensure your skin is clean before surgery.
Step 1 Do not shave your legs for one week before surgery to prevent a nick or cut on your skin.
Step 2
-Shower or bathe with the Hibiclens soap the night
before your surgery and the morning of surgery.
-Apply the Hibiclens soap to the entire body from the
neck down, paying special attention to the surgical
site. Do not use near your eyes, ears or genitals.
-To promote the best lather with the Hibiclens, use a
mesh scrub or your hands. Please do not use a
washcloth.
-Wash your body gently for 5 minutes. Do not scrub
too hard.
-After the skin is lathered, do not rinse for 1 minute so
that the Hibiclens has time to produce its desired effect.
Step 3 Use a nasal swab the night before surgery and the morning of surgery. Use one nasal swab for both nostrils. Rub inside the nose in a circular motion for 5-10 seconds.
Step 4 Do not wash with regular soap once Hibiclens is used.
Step 5 After washing with Hibiclens, do not use any lotion, powder, cream or deodorant.
Step 6 After each shower with Hibiclens, wear laundered cloths.
Step 7 After your first shower with Hibiclens (Chlorhexidine), if you notice you are having any type of allergic reaction:
-Hives
-Severe skin rash
-Wheezing
-Severe dizziness
-Difficulty breathing
-Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat
do not use the Hibiclens the morning of surgery. Alert your nurse upon arrival for surgery.
Also included in the Pre-Surgical Kit
Ensure Pre-Surgery Carbohydrate Drink, which helps recovery by reducing:
-nausea
-vomiting
-pain after surgery
-time in the hospital
Instructions:
-Drink one bottle of Ensure Pre-Surgery Carbohydrate
drink the night before surgery.
-Drink second bottle the day of surgery, finishing it
2 hours prior to your scheduled arrival time.
-Shake each bottle well before consuming
-Each bottle should be consumed quickly, in less than
5 minutes, rather than sipped over long period of time.

How to Use a Shower Curtain w/ a Tub Bench to Minimize Water on the Floor.
Using a bathtub transfer bench is a safe way to get in and out of the bathtub but it can make a mess and be dangerous when water from the shower splashes out on the floor.
In this quick tip video, Cindy shows how to use an inexpensive shower curtain to decrease the amount of water on the floor when using a bathtub transfer bench.
By cutting the shower curtain in a "v" it will allow the user of the tub bench to feed the flap into the slit in the seat, encourage the outer flaps to fall/hang inward around the seat, thereby keeping more of the water in the tub. The "v" cut will also allow non-transfer bench users the ability to clip the two bigger pieces of the cut together thereby keeping water inside the tub. *** This of course will not prevent all water from escaping the tub. Be sure to place a towel below the tub bench on the outside of the tub to catch any water and to prevent any safety issue arising from a wet floor.

Crutch Caddy Product Review
In this video Cindy, physical therapist with Adaptive Equipment Corner [...]
In this video Cindy, physical therapist with Adaptive Equipment Corner reviews a product called the Crutch Caddy.
Click on the link if you're interested in purchasing the Crutch Caddy: https://www.crutchcaddyusa.com
What is ...a Crutch Caddy?
The Crutch Caddy is a weighted disk that holds crutches in a vertical position when not in use. The crutches are held upright because of a "lock and release mechanism". The mechanism is mad up of 4 lever arms that hold crutches securely in an upright position. As an added feature the lever arms also glow-in-dark for night time use.
Important Information About Crutch Tip Size
Crutch Caddy also includes two replacement crutch tips. These crutch tips measure 1 3/4 inches in diameter and will fit most standard crutches. Standard crutches usually have an end tube that measures 7/8th inches in diameter. This measurement is the standard for most crutches sold in the USA. During the test we tried to fit the crutch tips that came in the box on a pair of forearm crutches but the tubing on the forearm crutches was too small and could not be used in the caddy.
Will the device work with a cane?
Another questions we had was will the device work with a cane? The Crutch Caddy is not designed to be used with a cane. The crutch tips that are included are too big for most cane tips.
Reducing Risk of Falls
The Crutch Caddy was designed to hold standard crutches in a vertical position at bedside or next to your favorite chair. Storing your crutches in a vertical position helps decrease the risk of others tripping over them when not in use and for easy access to the user.
Product Review Outcome
We were very impressed that the device was able to hold the crutches in a sturdy, vertical position. We also liked that the crutches were so easy to access.
