What is a fall? The Cambridge English Dictionary says that to fall is ‘to move unintentionally or unexpectedly onto or toward the ground or from a higher place’. The World Health Organization says, ‘a fall is defined as an event which results in a person coming to rest inadvertently on the ground or floor or other lower level’.
So, if you fall all the way to the floor or break your fall by landing in a chair or hit the wall and slide to the floor all three events would be classified as a fall and should be reported to your primary care physician. People 65+ who fall once, double their risk of falling again.
